Eggpress #Write_On Letterpress Cards

Given the uncertainty of things going on all around us the last few weeks, one bright spot was getting this Write On mystery pack of letterpress cards from Eggpress.  I mean, if we are all trying to be at home more and socializing a lot less, what better time than now to send out some cards to friends and family?

Not to make light of the current situation at all - sending mail is always a nice way to reach out and let someone know you're thinking of them.  My specific mystery pack has a great variety of cards for different occasions, and I'll definitely plan on sending out a lot more mail in the next few weeks!

3.11 Donation - Yahoo! Japan

Yahoo! Japan is continuing their March 11th tsunami and earthquake relief efforts with the 3.11 search again this year.  Yahoo! Japan will be making a 10 Yen donation to the Tohoku recovery efforts for every person that searches for “3.11” through the search engine.

It couldn't be easier to participate in the donation effort, even if you don't read Japanese! Just go to https://www.yahoo.co.jp today, and type in "3.11" in the web search field (the light blue section at the top of the page under the Yahoo! logo), and click on the dark blue search icon with the magnifying lens to the right of the search field.  You'll be directed to the thank you note up top, along with search results about the disaster and recovery efforts.  Every click counts!

Newseum - Anchorman Exhibit

As soon as I heard about a new Anchorman exhibit opening in the Newseum, I knew that I HAD to go ASAP - it's one of my favorite (and most quotable) movies!  I loved the idea of this crazy movie being in such a legitimate (and often serious) news-themed museums, haha.  My friend R and I checked it out before Anchorman 2 came out, as a nice little warm up to the sequel.

The exhibit is small, but packed full of movie memorabilia, and it was so fun to see everything in person! The way that the Newseum's guide takes you around the exhibits puts this one right at the end of the "tour", which I thought was a really good idea.  All of the serious and educational exhibits are great, but the Anchorman section was a nice breath of Sex Panther - I mean fresh air, haha.  If anyone is a fan of the movie and is in the DC area I would definitely recommend checking out this exhibit while it is around!

What's up, Mother Nature?

So, first we had an earthquake in the DC area earlier this week, which only helped to prove that I am completely incapable of reacting properly in an emergency.  I was out to lunch with a friend, and when the ground and walls started to shake, we literally sat there and froze until it was over.  Helpful, right?

And now it seems like we may be having a weekend party crasher as well, by the name of Hurricane Irene.  Hopefully the effects of the hurricane won't come too close to this area besides some rain, but if any of you are also in the projected path - please be safe and careful this weekend!!

Georgetown Cupcake, Oprah-fied!

So, I probably should've posted about this before the episode aired, but alas, I didn't think to ahead of time.

On Tuesday, the sisters/owners of Georgetown Cupcake were on Oprah to promote their DC Cupcakes show on TLC, and to show a recipe for Strawberry champagne sparkler cupcakes.  The presentation could use a little work, but overall it sounds like a cute and festive recipe, with an interesting twist on a regular cupcake.  Have any of you tried to bake with champagne before?  I haven't, but I can't wait to try the Strawberry Champagne cupcake at their Bethesda store soon!

RIP, Miki

I don't normally post too much personal stuff on this blog, but just wanted to take a moment to remember my family dog, a Maltese named Miki, who passed away yesterday morning at 8:30am.  She led a long and happy life for 16 years, 3 months.  She was a huge part of my life growing up, since she was a part of our family from the time I was in middle school.  As anyone that's ever had and/or lost a pet will know, it's a difficult time, even if we know that it's inevitable.  Pet owners and lovers, please take the time today to give your pet an extra hug for me in honor of Miki!

Top Chef - Filming in DC

Top Chef is currently filming in DC for the next season, as of today!!  No huge developments in terms of specifics, but Tom Colicchio has confirmed via Twitter that he is in DC and filming has started.

Rumors have been swirling as to which Whole Foods they'll be shopping at (P Street location seems to be the majority guess online), which chefs will be involved.  As far as guest judges, notable chefs that have restaurants in DC include: Eric Ripert, Jose Andres, Michel Richard, Wolfgang Puck, Charlie Palmer, Art Smith, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, and probably so many more I'm forgetting, as well as Bryan, Carla, Mike, and Spike from previous seasons.  Fingers crossed for a sighting, or an invite to the Restaurant Wars!! (Hey, it's my blog, I can dream)...  Let the Top Chef Stalking begin!
