Takeout Tuesday - Rockville and Bethesda-Area Holiday Options

For this week's Takeout Tuesday I wanted to share some information I received about holiday eats and shopping options for the local Rockville/Bethesda area, including some of my favorite spots!  Whether you're looking for gifts or some delicious food for yourself there's lots of great places and deals:

Pike & Rose:

• Summer House Santa Monica 

Summer House is offering Hanukkah and Christmas Eve Dinners to-go as well as Gingerbread Cookie Kits for additional holiday fun. The to-go Hanukkah dinner features Summer House favorites with a twist to create a four-course menu. Rockville Town Square:

• Dawson’s Market

• Lebanese Taverna

• The Fresh Market

Takeout Tuesday - Georgetown Cupcake's Pumpkin Cheesecake and Coffee Toffee Cupcakes

I finally made it over to Bethesda to pick up some of the November flavors at Georgetown Cupcake - I've definitely missed these cupcakes!  The store is set up only for online preorders currently, but there is no minimum requirement for the orders, and they can be done as same day orders.  I ordered mine outside the store and was able to pick them up about 15 minutes later.  

The Pumpkin Cheesecake and Coffee Toffee cupcakes are both options that are available on the November menu, in addition to lots of other pumpkin and fall flavors!  The cheesecakes especially are great for anyone that wants something different from their regular cupcakes, with a crumbly graham cracker crust and creamy cheesecake filling.  I'm also a big fan of coffee flavored sweets, so this Coffee Toffee is right up my alley, especially the coffee infused cake.  Be sure to check out Georgetown Cupcake for the delicious November flavors if you like fall and pumpkin flavors!

Georgetown Cupcake - Darcy Miller + Ruby Chocolate Raspberry Cupcakes

How cute are these Valentine's Day themed cupcakes from Georgetown Cupcakes?  Even though Valentine's Day has already passed, I say we can keep the love going throughout the month if only for an excuse to eat more pink sweets, haha.

The one on the left is part of the Darcy Miller collaboration, which came in vanilla and chocolate combinations with pink frosting, heart sprinkles, and the fondant decoration.  The one on the right is the Ruby Chocolate Raspberry - I loved the pale pink ruby chocolate frosting, it was so pretty and delicious.  These should be available through February along with the other fun (and mostly pink!) cupcakes this month!

Georgetown Cupcake - Double Chocolate Chip Fudge Cupcake

I remembered to get the Double Chocolate Chip Fudge cupcake while it's still available this month at Georgetown Cupcake - better late then never, haha :o) 

The cupcake consists of a "Valrhona chocolate cupcake studded with Callebaut chocolate chips, filled with fudge, and topped with a Callebaut milk chocolate buttercream frosting, fudge lattice drizzle, and a sprinkling of Callebaut chocolate chips".  Maybe the cupcake should've been called the super duper extra chocolate cupcake instead - so many different chocolate flavors in one cupcake!  It's a really delicious combination of chocolate in all forms and textures, perfect for any chocolate lovers.  I also picked up a Cookies and Creme Cheesecake as well, which is not quite as chocolate-filled but still super tasty.  Both of these flavors are September menu items, but I hope they come back again another time!  

Georgetown Cupcake - Red White and Blue Vanilla Surprise + Coconut Creme Cheesecake

Feeling very summery with these July Georgetown Cupcake flavors! First up is the Red White and Blue Vanilla Surprise, which consists of a Vanilla cupcake infused with red, white, and blue candy nonpareils, and topped with Madagascar vanilla buttercream frosting, and red and blue fondant stars.  I love Funfetti cake, and this was a delicious variation with the red, white and blue nonpareils in the cake. 

I also got the Coconut Creme Cheesecake - which I knew would not be a favorite due to the coconut flavor, haha.  But of course as a new flavor I had to try it!  This cupcake is a Coconut cheesecake with a graham cracker crumb crust, topped with a coconut buttercream frosting, toasted coconut flakes and a fondant palm tree.  So, as expected this isn't a cupcake I'd get again since I don't like coconuts, but I love the cute little palm tree, and the creamy cheesecake base doesn't have an overwhelming coconut flavor.  But not to worry if you like coconut - the combination of the coconut frosting and cheesecake together definitely make it good for any fans! 

Georgetown Cupcake - Cookies and Creme Birthday Fudge + Toffee Crunch Cheesecake

I love Georgetown Cupcake's cheesecake flavors, so I am always happy to see a new flavor that incorporates a delicious cheesecake base!  The Toffee Crunch Cheesecake consists of a "Toffee cheesecake with a graham cracker crust, topped with a toffee-infused frosting and crushed toffee pieces".  I didn't totally get a lot of toffee from the cheesecake, but the frosting and topping was plenty of toffee flavor and crunch for me, haha.  The cheesecake itself is very rich and creamy - if you haven't tried their cheesecakes before I highly recommend them.

I also got the Cookies and Creme Birthday Fudge cupcake because it looks so fun, haha. This cupcake consists of a "Cookies & crème cupcake cored and filled with fudge, topped with a baby blue cookies & crème buttercream, fudge star drizzle, and rainbow jimmies".  I've had this cupcake before, and it's a great twist on a cookies and creme cupcake.  It's like a birthday cake with Oreos added - delicious! 

Easter Events and Treats in Bethesda/North Bethesda

I've never "officially" celebrated Easter before, but I always enjoy celebrating with all the delicious candy and sweets that come out this time of year, haha  This year, I'll be enjoying a group Easter Sunday hosted by my friend L, but I also wanted to share some events and treats that are offered in the local area this weekend for both Easter and Passover.  If anyone is looking to make plans with friends or family, be sure to check these out.  Or if you already have plans, Sugarfina and Georgetown Cupcake offerings would be great to bring to any holiday celebrations!

- Summer House Santa Monica (Pike & Rose): Easter Brunch featuring Fresh Berry Waffles, Breakfast Tostadas on crispy corn tortillas and heaped with pulled chicken, , sunny side up eggs and avocado.  There is a special holiday menu for the kids and a sweet Easter treat too. 
 
- Also, they offer an authentic Passover dinner menu featuring homemade gefilte fish with beet horseradish, vegetarian “chopped liver,” Matzo Ball soup, Slow Braised Beef Short Rib, Warm Flourless Chocolate Cake and more. The holiday menu is priced $39.95 per guest and $12.95 for children 12 and younger (plus tax, gratuity not included.) The regular menu will also be available and includes new spring menu additions. Passover dinner is available April 19^th-20^th from 5:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

- Stella Barra (Pike & Rose): Unlimited chef-inspired Easter brunch buffet for $20.95. Entrees include Roasted Corn & Poblano Egg Enchiladas, Cinnamon Roll Bread Pudding, Italian Sausage Hash, Avocado Arugula Pesto or Spicy Salami and Burrata Pizzas and $5 Bloody Mary’s, Mimosas and Bellinis.  Easter dinner will also be served from 2:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

- City Perch Kitchen + Bar (Pike & Rose): A decadent buffet featuring an Easter Egg Hunt and a photo opportunity with the Hipster Bunny. 

- Mon Abi Gabi (Bethesda): French inspired brunch menu featuring savory crepes, Eggs Benedict, waffles and more, available from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  Easter dinner is also available featuring Chive-Crusted Salmon, Casareccia Pasta and Classic Steak Frites, available from 3:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. Dessert house favorites include Gala Apple Tarte Tatin and Salted Chocolate Caramel Tart. All kids will receive a sweet Easter treat.

Happy April everyone!  Springtime brings lots of seasonal cupcake flavors at Georgetown Cupcake, with lots of pastel colors and cute designs. There's a lot of special flavors this month especially with Easter being in April!

Georgetown Cupcake - Baileys Chocolate Mint Cupcake

St. Patrick's day is already over, but I had to share this cute holiday-themed cupcake that's available at Georgetown Cupcake this month! 

The Baileys Chocolate Mint cupcake is a "chocolate cupcake infused with non-alcoholic Baileys essence and topped with a light green non-alcoholic Baileys essence-infused buttercream frosting, a mint chocolate ganache lattice drizzle, shamrock confetti sprinkles, and a gold fondant shamrock embossed with Baileys “BB” logo".  Honestly, mint chocolate is not my preferred flavor, but I really liked how festive this was, especially with the tiny shamrock sprinkles and the mint green colored frosting.  And their chocolate cake is always delicious!

I also purchased their Rainbow cupcake because I thought it looked good with the St. Patrick's day theme, haha.  The Rainbow cupcake is "a classic Madagascar vanilla cupcake infused with rainbow nonpareils and topped with a baby blue-tinted Madagascar vanilla buttercream frosting, and a sour candy rainbow".  A perfect companion to the pot of Baileys gold!

A new month means new flavors at Georgetown Cupcake, yay!  I love that there's a good mix of both spring-related flavors and some delicious chocolate based ones too.

Georgetown Cupcake - Salted Caramel Marshmallow Ganache Cupcake

Soooooo, chocolate ganache isn't exactly the most photogenic in the realm of cupcake toppings, haha.  Despite the less than favorable appearances, this secret flavor at Georgetown Cupcake was delicious! I love the marshmallow core combined with the tasty salted caramel cake, and of course the rich chocolate layer on top.  It might sound like a lot of different flavors mashed together, but I can assure you that in spite of its appearance, it all works out to a great cupcake :o)

Georgetown Cupcake - Coffee Toffee + Chocolate Cubed Cupcakes

I recently tried the Coffee Toffee cupcake from Georgetown Cupcake, just before the menu switched over to the holiday flavors.  I also made it in time to get the free flavor as well - the Chocolate Cubed - which was a nice little bonus!

The Coffee Toffee cupcake consists of a "Coffee cupcake infused with crushed toffee and topped with a mocha frosting and crushed toffee".  In other words, if you like either of the main flavors, you will love this cupcake!  I especially loved the mocha frosting - so creamy and really delicious! The toffee bits were in both the cake and the frosting, so it was a great bit of texture in every bite.  I hope they bring this one back, maybe with other crushed candy combinations too.

Georgetown Cupcake - November Flavors

The November flavors at Georgetown Cupcake are primarily pumpkin based which I always love, but also with a few other fun flavors mixed in as well.  As you might have guessed, these would make a perfect snack or dessert for a Thanksgiving gathering!
