Mise en place
Yup, you read the title right- Cakespy has gone and posted a recipe for a chocolate avocado cake...it was just too bizarre-sounding for me to not try. I decided to try out just the cake first, and use a tub of chocolate frosting, in lieu of the avocado buttercream frosting, just so I could see how the cake is first. The recipe comes together v. easily, and the rest of the ingredients are pretty easy/you'd probably have on-hand if you bake at all at home.
Err...something's wrong here.
So, after the cake batter is mixed, I threw it in the oven for the recommended time and then took it out...and the cake just literally gave up. I noticed the center was a little sunken in when I took it out initially, but then soon realized that the v. center of the cake was in fact still RAW and oozy. Now if this were a chocolate-avocado-molten-lava-cake, that would've been fine, but no such luck in my case. So, I put it back in the oven, fingers crossed, for an additional 10 -15 minutes.
Much better!
Round 2 of exiting the oven, the cake looked much better, and a toothpick test in the center showed that it was actually fully baked. Unfortunately this sort of compromised the edges of the cake, which wound up being a little over-baked.
Frosted (and eaten, haha)
After frosting the cake, I cut out a chunk to try it out. Not too shabby! It tasted like a less-sweet version of chocolate cake, v. moist, and no guacamole-taste in there either, haha. I don't think anyone would notice that there was any avocado in there, but they may notice that it tastes less sweet than "normal" chocolate cake. This was a fun recipe to try out, and a good way to use up a leftover avocado if you're looking for a non-savory option!
looks yummy - i must learn how to bake xxxxx
